About Switzerland vignette for campers

Switzerland vignette for campers is a mandatory document that must be obtained to drive in Switzerland without any issues. Both international drivers and nationals of Switzerland are subject to the requirement of having a valid vignette for campers if their vehicle weight does not exceed 3.5 tonnes.

Switzerland has not introduced a separate vignette dedicated exclusively to campers. Nevertheless, an official Swiss vignette must be obtained by all drivers of the vehicles up to and including 3.5t. (cars, motorbikes, trailers, caravans, delivery vans and campers).

Luckily, since August 2023, obtaining an official vignette for campers has been possible online. Traditional toll stickers have not yet been discontinued in Switzerland. Nevertheless, purchasing a Switzerland vignette online enables saving plenty of time and energy. Yet another benefit of the Swiss e-vignette is the fact that it is linked to the vehicle’s registration number. In turn, physical toll stickers are assigned directly to the particular vehicles.

Why you should obtain a Swiss camper vignette

The introduction of the Swiss vignette for campers, as well as other vehicles of up to 3.5t., was aimed at collecting money to cover the expenses of road maintenance. As it may be very inconvenient to try using toll-free Swiss roads, all drivers and owners of campers are recommended to purchase a Swiss camper vignette instead of wasting time on looking for toll exemption.

Moreover, driving without a valid vignette in Switzerland may result in imposing a financial penalty, which is currently CHG 200. Additionally, a driver is also obliged to cover the cost of the missing vignette.

Any attempt at vignette forging or missing may lead to legal consequences, including being reported to the Attorney General of Switzerland.

Vehicles covered by the Switzerland vignette for campers

The Switzerland camper vignette requirement applies to owners of campers whose GVW does not exceed 3.5 tonnes.

If you are an owner of a camper over 3.5t, it does not mean that you are exempt from toll. Contrarily, you must pay the so-called lump-sum heavy vehicle charge (PSVA).

Online purchase of the Swiss camper vignette

All camper owners planning to visit Switzerland can now enjoy the online vignette purchase. Forget about looking for the nearest petrol station or another sales point where you could buy a Switzerland camper vignette. Instead, follow these simple steps to receive your active vignette delivered to you via email:

  1. Put all required information: Go to the online order form and enter all required details, such as your vehicle license plate and country of registration. Before moving to the next step, double-check if you have provided the correct details.
  2. Pay the vignette fee: Choose one of the available secure means of online payment and cover the fee.
  3. Check your email: After settling the payment, make sure to check your email address. Your active Swiss vignette for campers will be sent there.

Note: Since Switzerland does not have a camera system verifying vignettes, you should print your vignette confirmation and have its physical copy with you throughout the entire trip across Switzerland. During the vignette control performed at the borders and inside the country, the police can ask you to show the confirmation of your purchased Switzerland vignette.

Duration of Switzerland vignettes for campers

Whether you plan a short trip through Switzerland with your camper or you frequently visit Switzerland during the year, in both cases, you will need to obtain an annual vignette. Unfortunately, Switzerland has not introduced short-term vignettes. That is why a 14-month Swiss vignette for campers is mandatory irrespective of your trip duration.

The Swiss vignette for campers is issued for 14 months, starting with the validity on December 1st of the previous year and ending on January 31st of the year following the vignette purchase.

Important: Even if your trip to Switzerland is only a one-day trip or even if you plan to spend in the country only a couple of hours, you still should obtain an annual Swiss vignette for campers. Otherwise, you will risk being fined.
